Jacobs, Gowan land on Atlanta Business Chronicle's Who's Who in Education list

Dr. Bonita Jacobs, °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ president, and Dr. Mary Gowan, dean of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾'s Mike Cottrell College of Business, were named to the Atlanta Business Chronicle's Who's Who in Education, a list of 100 education figures in metro Atlanta.

, president of the University of North Georgia (°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾), and , dean of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾'s Mike Cottrell College of Business (MCCB), have been named to the Atlanta Business Chronicle's , a list of 100 education figures in metro Atlanta.

Through Jacobs' leadership, °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ has been named a top producer of Fulbright students for three years in a row and scored a decisive win in the NSA Codebreaker Challenge. °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ won the General Douglas MacArthur Award in the fall as the nation's top senior military college. In recent years, °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ has been recognized by numerous national publications, including Forbes, U.S. News & World Report and Kiplinger, as one of the nation's leading universities for academic excellence, student success and affordability.

Since she became dean of the MCCB in February 2019, Gowan has been involved in helping to plan and design the Cottrell Center for Business, Technology and Innovation. The new facility will serve the business and computer science programs at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾, and it is set to open in 2022. The MCCB serves more than 4,300 of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾'s nearly 20,000 students with an array of undergraduate and graduate programs across four of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾'s five campuses.

Three °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ alumni also were included on the Atlanta Business Chronicle list: , superintendent of the Cherokee County School District; , president of Georgia Piedmont Technical College; and , superintendent of the Gainesville City School System.

"The leaders of these institutions and systems make it possible for Atlanta area residents to grow their professional knowledge and understanding and to develop new skills and talents that help foster leadership in their businesses and their communities," according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle article that announced the list.
