Assistant professor of education earns multiple accolades

Dr. T. Jameson Brewer is garnering recognition from higher education journals and associations.

The assistant professor of social foundations and leadership education in the University of North Georgia's (澳门六合彩官方网站) College of Education had a study published in "Urban Education," had a policy memo printed in SouthStrong, and had two books earn high recognition.

"The recognition of our work in the way of awards, invited op-eds, and media interviews not only helps elevate the visibility of academic research but expands academic knowledge to a wider and public audience," Brewer said. "Researchers always want, and hope, that their work is meaningful to a wide audience."

Earlier this year, two books Brewer co-edited and co-authored were honored by two different organizations. His book "Learning to Teach in an Era of Privatization: Global Trends in Teacher Preparation" was selected as Critics' Choice Book Award by members of the American Educational Studies Association (AESA), which is the major professional society for social foundations of education. And the book "Philanthropy, Hidden Strategy, and Collective Resistance: A Primer for Concerned Educators" received the 2020 Society of Professors of Education Outstanding Book Award.

"The focus on collaboration is the thing that I am most proud of across the body of my work and the varied platforms on which it is published and recognized," Brewer said.

Brewer has also received two other recognitions for his work.

In October, a was published by "Urban Education." The study pioneered a new digital ethnography methodology and was co-authored with University of Kentucky College of Education Dean Julian Vasquez Heilig and others. In August, a of his was printed in SouthStrong, an initiative led by the Southern Economic Advancement Project (SEAP).
