°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ LEADS Day offers development

University of North Georgia (°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾) faculty and staff will have the opportunity to take part in a wide array of professional development offerings through the virtual °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ LEADS Day on Aug. 14. LEADS stands for Leadership, Engagement, Achievement, Development, and Service. This marks the fifth year of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ LEADS Day and the fourth time it will be held online.
°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ employees can choose three 45-minute sessions to attend via Zoom in the morning, with seven options at 9 a.m., six at 10:05 a.m. and six at 11:10 a.m. Seven options are available for course or certification completions from 1-4 p.m., also on Zoom.

"Members of the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ community will present topics and best practices on academic and professional excellence, student success and personal wellness," Dr. Alyson Paul, associate vice president of Student Affairs and dean of students at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾'s Gainesville and Cumming campuses, said. "Breakout sessions will enable faculty and staff to participate in the sessions that interest them most, and recordings will be available after the conference."
Dr. T. Jameson Brewer and Dr. Richelle Keilholz will lead a session that explores some of the key topics related to the growth of artificial intelligence as it relates to academic integrity considerations, the importance of evaluating student work for AI-generated content, and some best practices for analyzing student work to protect the integrity of higher education and to uphold the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ Honor Code.
Zachary Elison and Dr. Rana Gautam will lead a session that reviews principles and applied practices that promote student belonging. Applying skills related to in-group formation, pedagogical concern, and social valuing, attendees will come away with a deeper understanding of the mechanisms and practices that promote belonging in the classroom.
Paul and Meri-Leigh Smith will lead a session that discusses the launch of LiveWell°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾, which aims to create a culture and approach to student success that acknowledges that wellness is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, but is the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.
Dr. Kathryn Narciso, Hugh Scott, Mallory Rodriguez, and Jie Guo, will lead a discussion of how to bring together different departments that engage in leadership education to discuss ideas and opportunities to better serve °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾'s programs and students.

To close out the day, the executive directors of the regional campuses, Staff Council and the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ Foundation are sponsoring ice cream socials on each campus from 4-5 p.m. at the locations below:

°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ welcomes new faculty members
°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ is welcoming more than 50 new full-time faculty members this fall, and they had a chance to acclimate to °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ in a new faculty orientation held this July.
Faculty, staff earn awards
°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ gave faculty and staff awards at events Aug. 5-8 ahead of the 2024-25 academic year. °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ also recognized faculty for promotion and tenure accomplishments and all employees who hit service milestones during the 2023 calendar year.
Faculty member Wintersgill passes away
Dr. Joanne Wintersgill, a member of the University of North Georgia (°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾) undergraduate and graduate nursing faculty, passed away Saturday, March 23, peacefully and surrounded by her family and friends.
Faculty publish book on intellectual freedom
°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾ faculty collaborated with colleagues from Old Dominion University on a book pertaining to children's literature and intellectual freedom.
